The 44th match of the ICC World Cup was played between India and Sri Lanka at Leeds on 6th of July. Sri Lanka chose to bat first as they won the toss.
Sri Lanka scored 264 runs in 50 overs with 7 wickets down. Angelo Mathews became the top scorer as he scored 113 off 128 balls with 10- fours and 2- sixes. This was his first World Cup century and 3rd ODI century. All of his three centuries were scored against the Indian team. Lahiru Thirimanne scored 53 runs off 68 balls with 4- fours, Dhananjaya De Silva scored 29 runs off 36 balls with 1- four, Avishka Fernando scored 20 runs 21 balls with 4- fours, Kushal Perera scored 18 runs off 14 balls and Dimuth Karunaratne made 10 runs off 17 balls with 2- fours.
Excellent bowling spirit was shown by the Indian team as Jasprit Bumrah picked up 3- wickets. Likewise, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar each took one wicket.
India successfully chased the targeted as the team made 265 runs in 43.3 overs with 3 wickets down. KL Rahul became the top scorer as he scored his first ODI hundred with 111 runs off 118 balls with 11- fours and 1- six. Rohit Sharma scored 103 runs off 94 balls with 14- fours and 2- sixes. This was his 5th century in this World Cup and his 27th ODI century. He became the first batsman to score 5 centuries in a single World Cup edition as he broke the record of Kumar Sangakkara’s record who had scored 4 of them. He also became the second Indian player to score three consecutive centuries in ODI and overall 11th player to do so.
The partnership of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma led to the score of 189 runs. This became India’s best first wicket partnership and fourth best opening stand in the World Cups.
Virat Kolhi maintained an unbeaten streak of 34 runs off 41 balls with 3- fours included and Hardik Pandya made 7 runs for not out in 4 balls.
Kasun Rajinath, Isuru Udana, and Lasith Malinga each took one wicket.
Rohit Sharma was named the Man of the match.
