  • The 12th match of ICC World Cup 2015 was played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan at University Oval on 22nd February. Sri Lanka decided to bowl first as they won the toss.
  • Afghanistan scored 232 in 49.4 overs with all 10 wickets down. Asghar Afghan became the team’s top scorer as he scored 54 runs off 57 balls with 5- fours and 1- six. Samiullah Shinwari scored 38 off 70 balls including 5- four included, Mirwais Ashraf scored 28 runs off 32 balls with 2- sixes and 1- four included. Javed Ahmadi scored 24 off 23 balls 4- fours, Mohammad Nabi scored 21 off 27 with 2- fours and 1- six, and Afsar Zazai 19 runs off 38 balls with 1- four included.
  • Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews successfully picked up 3- wickets and Lasith Malinga picked up 3 wickets. Suranga Lakmal picked 2 wickets, Rangana Herath picked up 1 and Thisara Perera picked up 1.
  • Sri Lanka successfully scored 236 runs in 48.2 with 6 wickets. Mahela Jayawardene became the top scorer as he scored 100 with 8- fours and 1- six. This was his 18th ODI century, first century against Afghanistan in ODIs, and fourth ODI century in World Cups. Likewise, he became the first Sri Lankan batsman to have scored a century against Afghanistan in ODI and overall the sixth player in ODIs. With this century, the total number of centuries numbered 4 and he became the Sri Lankan batsman with the highest number of centuries in the World Cup as he surpassed the record previously held by Sanath Jayasuriya who had 3 centuries scored.
  • Thisara Perera remained unbeaten and scored 47 runs off 26 balls with 6- fours and 1- six included. Likewise, Angelo Mathews scored 44 runs off 81 balls with 2- fours included and Dimuth Karunnaratne scored 23 runs off 32 with 3- fours included.
  • Afghanistan’s Hami Hassan successfully picked up 3 wickets, Dawlat Zadran picked up 1 wicket and Shapoor Zadran picked up 1 wicket.
  • Mahela Jayawardene became the Player of the match for scoring 109 runs off 120 balls with 8- fours and 1- six included.
