In the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League, KL Rahul's record-breaking 42-ball 98* led Punjab Kings to a record six-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings and a climb to fifth place in the points standings.


CSK scored 134-6 in 20 overs, with Faf du Plessis top-scoring with 76 off 55 balls (8 fours and 2 sixes), Ravindra Jadeja 15, Ruturaj Gaikwad 12, and MS Dhoni 12.


Chris Jordan's finest bowler, Arshdeep Singh, got two wickets for PBKS, and one for Mohammed Shami - Ravi Bishnoi.


PBKS chased down 139-4 in 13 overs, with Kl Rahul (98 not out), Aiden Markram (13), and Mayank Agarwal (12) scoring the most runs.

Shardul Thakur, CSK's top bowler, grabbed three wickets for 27 runs in 27 overs, while Deepak Chahar took one wicket.


KL Rahul's unbroken 98 was his third-best score for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. It was also the third greatest score by a PBKS batsman against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, and the highest-scoring by a skipper against CSK, surpassing Virat Kohli's unbeaten 90 at Dubai in 2020.


KL Rahul, along with Glenn Maxwell, Virender Sehwag, Wriddhiman Saha, and Chris Gayle, shared the joint fifth most hits in an innings for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League, as well as the joint-most sixes hit in an innings by a PBKS player against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.


Punjab Kings' 42-balls spare was their third-largest victory in terms of runs in the Indian Premier League, and it was their greatest win over Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, following a 21-ball triumph in Dharamsala in 2012.


KL Rahul hit his sixth-fastest fifty in the Indian Premier League for Punjab Kings and his second fastest half-century against Chennai Super Kings.


In the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings' 134 was their third-lowest total against Punjab Kings.


KL Rahul named Player of the Match for his match-winning power-hitting batting effort in which he hammered a match-winning unbroken 98 runs off 42 balls, including eight sixes and seven fours at a strike rate of 233.33.
